Where Time Reigns (2020)

Wonder

Millinery Artist Residency // Gatlinburg, TN

This artist residency’s spatial design and materiality allude to the character of time, process, and craft residents will experience in a two-week endeavor practicing millinery. Resident’s perception is altered as they interact with unexpected stimuli that ultimately prolongs time’s duration.

This design intends to create a shared collective experience in which individuals are aware of time’s presence and are inspired by "what was?", "what is?", and "what could be"?

Initial Sketches and Study of Line - Exploring the characteristics of time and how it may inform spatial experiences.

Layout - This design provides residents a traditional entrance that begins to morph and shape into curved or slanted walls in private suites. These untraditional spaces encourage reflection and inspiration to fuel resident’s creative journeys.

Copper Details and Wood Floors - Encouraging natural petina to develop to emphasize time’s presence.

Elevations - Large felt ribbon feature connects the floors and space to create a connection between the past, present, and future while touching on the materiality and practice of millinery.
